Solar Panels
Solar panels. How does it work? Do you know how it works? Of course I know how it works. They can really be used anywhere there needs to be electricity or warmth. Here at Lompoc High School I've been seeing apartments that have have solar panels on top of their roofs. They're just off of the track beyond the track field on the visitors section. It's been just installed there recently because I've never seen them there before. I like the view of it as I'm walking by certain parts of the school and I see them there. It gives me a good feeling that people in our community is helping out the planet by saving electricity. Other people should really do this to save energy. I mean who doesn't want to save money for not using reneuable energy.

Gas helping Gas
We haven't found a way to completely stop using fossil fuels, a good way to help is that major gas companies can help the planet and economy with all the money they're getting from the profit of the gas they're selling. I've looked to find out if a gas company is doing this and I've found one. Chevron is helping the nation with many ways you can think of. Weather if it is bio fuels, helping communities and helping projects that help to create green energy with the money they gain from profit. For example, in 2010 Chevron invested $197 Million dollars in strengthening communities and that same year they also invested $21.8 Billion dollars in projects that bring energy and jobs to the world.

The Green Car
What is really a important way of saving our planets and fossil fuels is the green car. A green car does not have to be an electric car or a hybrid, it can a be a car that has really good mpg or miles per gallon. What car do you think of when you think about saving gas? Honda,Toyota, Hyundai or Nissan? Well they have been known for saving gas in the past, but not anymore. The company with the most cars with the highest mpg, beating all other car manufacturers is Chevrolet. Starting with the Aveo Sedan that offers an EPA estimated 35 MPG highway. That's better standard highway fuel economy than Hyundai Accent and Nissan Versa. The Aveo5 hatchback offers the same but has smaller body, but still with plenty of room inside. With a base price of both being under $13,000 these cars are absolutely affordable. Another car from Chevrolet the new Chevrolet Cruze. The Cruz offers the Eco option which gives an outstanding 42 mpg. with great styling and performance. If you want to spend a little less money and get the standard Cruze, don't worry about getting to little mpg because the Cruze offers 36 mpg standard. Another new car that has been getting word talk from everywhere is the Chevrolet Volt. The Volt is Chevrolet's electric car, but also has gasoline engine in it so if your power runs out you don't have to worry. The Volt was given 2011 Motor Trends Car of The Year, 2011 North American Car of The Year and also 2011 Green Car of The year by The Green Journal, being the first electric car to win this award. What makes the Volt different from all other gas/electric car is that when its electric engine runs out and the gas engine takes over, the gas engine not only works as an engine, but also as generator to create more electricity for the electric engine to continue running on electricity. No other car manufacturer has ever done this. They either have an all electric motor that eventually runs out after a few miles because of their low technology sophistication or they have a gas motor and an electric motor that just gives the gas motor a little boost ,but still releases gasses into the air.

City of wind
I've been hearing that our city will be using wind turbines and will be placed on the mountains. The turbines will be placed behind the mountains out of view because of the argument that it will ruin the landscape's beautiful view. If we do have wind turbines, that will be an absolute great way that our city can save energy by using reusable energy. Our city will have no problem with getting the turbines to turn, because our city is known to be pretty windy.

Brainstorming
The way I can decrease my carbon footprint is to recycle and to only buy products with recyclable packaging. I'll be going around my home and unplug electrical sockets when we are not using those appliances. Also because I'll be in my home staying strict all about recycling and saving energy, I will convince my family to do the same so they to will also know not to waist electricity and water. Buying energy efficient light bulbs can really save electricity in our home. A big way our school can help our planet is to use and sell the students recycled note book paper and pencils. Recycling plastic bottles is another way to help and what are school is doing. What the economy can do to help reduce our carbon foot print could make a really big impact on the world. If everyone if they can, can ride bikes or even walk if they are going short distances. Also, if people bought gas efficient cars or electric hybrid cars such as the Chevrolet Volt. Having fuel efficient cars not only saves the planet, but also saves your wallet.

"Reduce,Reuse,Recycle"

I can reduce my carbon footprint by doing many things, for example i could turn off the water while I'm brushing my teeth and take shorter showers. I could use more reusable water bottles rather than disposable cups. I can also recycle and use more organic products. To reduce our carbon footprint my family could stop using plastic bags from the grocery store and use reusable bags. We could also watch less television and unplug anything we are not using. Lompoc High school could reduce our carbon footprint by using less paper and doing more lessons and activities on the Internet. Lompoc High could also reuse items like envelopes, folders, and paper clips. Teachers could reduce the need to copy and print by copying and printing on both sides of the paper. Lompoc could install more solar panels to buildings so we could use less electricity and use more solar energy. We could also use wind turbines because it gets windy here. I think Lompoc could also have informational meetings because not many people know how they can reduce their carbon footprint.
